Spanking is the repeated hitting on the dressed or bare buttocks. For this purpose, either the flat hand or a suitable spanking instrument is used. The term spanking is not only used in English for the consensual use of eroticism, but also for corporal punishment at home or in school. Spanking is the generic term for numerous specific practices which, depending on the spanking instrument, are described with Caning (tube), Paddling (wooden or leather paddle), Switching (straight) or Flogging. In German, the term spanking refers primarily to eroticism. For unlawful corporal punishment at home, German phrases such as "den Hintern versohlen" are often used. The term spanking was introduced due to the widespread use in the erotic scene and the lack of suitable alternatives. However, the Duden has not yet been given the floor. The same applies to the verb spank, which is also used like a German word (Ich möchte jeden Tag gespankt werden.). In the field of BDSM, particularly hard forms of spanking are also grouped together under the term Flagellantism.
For spanking, a variety of different spanking instruments can be used: The bamboo stick is especially common in Asia. The birch rod is the most common European counterpart in this country. In addition, everyday objects such as rubber hoses, belts, hairbrushes, cooking spoons, rulers, spatulas, raw sticks or carpet beaters are very popular. Proven percussion instruments such as riding sticks, paddles, whips and taws are also used. If only the flat hand is used, this is called Hand-Spanking.
